So the weather is meant to be grand this Sunday, so get your climbing shoes on and lets get some hills in those legs. I was going to do a 50ish mile route over the Bwlch to Port Talbot but there was a landslide in Cymmer the other day so not sure whether that will have been cleared by Sunday....which has forced me to go for a Bwlch-Rhigos double hit which is 63 miles. Hope this is ok with everyone.
We are looking for PB's up the Bwlch and the Rhigos, so smash it up them as much as you like. Prior to, in between and the long run home we will be riding as a solid group with stronger riders helping the weaker riders to keep the speed up/steady.
So out via Heol Spencer and down to Bryncethin, across at the roundabout to take the road to the bottom of the club hill climb. Up over Llangeinor for a leg stretcher and then up to the first classified climb of the day...THE BWLCH...descend down where we will re-group before the left turn to Treorchy. Head through and to the 2nd classified climb...THE RHIGOS...smash it up and down the other side before regrouping at the roundabout. We will then turn left and follow the road through Cefn Rhigos, Glynneath, Resolven, Neath, Briton Ferry with coffee stop at Remos in on Aberavon front (48 miles at this point). We'll then come back with any remaining energy being expended along Harbour Way, then back home via Margam, Pyle, Stormy Down and back into Bridgend.
Unofficial KOM points will be on offer for the two classified climbs for which the grand prize (accumulation of points over the two) will be a Strava kudos and possibly a comment from myself!
The 63 miles and the climby nature isn't meant to put anyone off, but improve peoples climbing ability going into the warmer months and nobody will be left on their own the other side of the Rhigos so don't panic about that.
Hope to see you all there, will be a good day out
