Ambler's Ride - Sunday 9 Oct
« on: October 08, 2016, 02:20:25 PM »
A pretty decent forecast for tomorrow, if a bit nippy, but with lots of sunshine and good visibility, so ideal for an amble over the Bwlch.  Therefore the proposed route for tomorrow is a slightly tweaked version of Reliability Ride 2, as follows:

Brackla - Bridgend - Laleston - Margam - Taibach - Afan Valley via Cymmer - the Bwlch - Nantymoel - Ogmore Vale - Lewistown - Llangeinor (the easy way) - Brynmenyn - Bryncethin - the Common - Pencoed - Coychurch - Brackla

It's around 50 miles with a coffee at the end of the ride in Ewenny, and a re-group at the invisible Tea Wagon at the top of the Bwlch. Remember this is advertised as an amble so let's try and keep the group together at a reasonable pace. Feel free to beast yourselves on the Bwlch and Llangeinor Strava segments! See you at 0900 at Physiques.

Hi Craig,

Sorry we lost you today. Nick did try to chase you down when you flew past the turn for Llangeinor, but you were going so fast you disappeared through a hole in the space-time continuum! :o We did catch a glimpse of you later as you rode through Bryncethin but we got held up at the junction so couldn't catch you up.

A great ride today in perfect weather and an ideal day to scamper over the Bwlch. The pace was much steadier than of late, which made it a lot more social, although obviously we were able to give it a bit of a dig on the upper slopes of the Bwlch and climbing over Llangeinor.  Full marks to the Oggies for their impromptu litter sweep in the lay-by at the top of the Bwlch which was covered in chip papers, McDonalds cartons and other assorted rubbish (Team Sky TUE slips :-[). It was good to see former Club Captain Paul Longthorn back in the saddle (to add to his list of cryptic ride titles on Strava) as well as Newbie Richard, who returned full of vim and vigour despite last week's sound flogging ;D. Out today were:

Paul L
Richard
Tom
Terry
Neil
Craig
Jonathan
Nick L
Lea
Mark P

See you next week.
