Club Runs / Re: Amblers/Social ride Sunday May 10th
« on: May 12, 2026, 02:42:20 PM »
Ali joined me for the Amblers ride, initially following the Pacers/Chasers group for the first 10 miles or so. We 'let them' forge on after Llantrisant and settled into a steadier pace for the rest of the day.
After cycle path past Llantrisant followed the route to Pontypridd then diverted to Abercynon. Almost did myself a mischief on the sharp rise out of the village, when the skewer came loose on my rear wheel, bike came to a standstill but I carried on to land astride the front stem. Lucky escape!!
Quick coffee stop in Pontypridd before retracing our steps as far as Llantrisant and returning home via Ystradowen, City and Graig Penllyn

47 miles @15.8mph average, bit faster than a normal Amblers due to the speedy tow at the start  :)

Club Runs / Reliability ride RR3 Sunday 19th April
« on: April 16, 2026, 02:57:37 PM »
This Sunday, April 19th is the final reliability ride for this season. Here is the route:- https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/5322488

A couple of pointers for the route:-

1. At the start of the ride you need to go to the the 2nd roundabout in Coity, before turning back on yourself
2. On the leg back to Bridgend DO NOT turn down New Inn Road, stay on the main road to Ewenny roundabout.
3. Ride finishes in Costa coffee in Cowbridge

RR3 is 100km and has two options, 3 hour 30 mins or 4 hours. (With the  +/- 15min buffer, the 4 hour option can be achieved by riding at just over 14 .5mph)

Ride starts at 8:30 for 4 hour option (sign on by 8:15) average 15.5mph
9:00 for 3:30 option (sign on by 8:45) average 17.7mph

PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME

NO COMPUTERS, WATCHES or GPS DEVICES ARE ALLOWED
so if you feel the need to record your ride then tape over or cover up screens.
Tape will be provided at the start!  ;D

To be 'reliable' or 'qualify' in RR3 you have to finish + or - 15 minutes of your intended time.

Signing on is 15 minutes before start time and remember to let me or other riders know if you don't intend to complete the ride.
Please post your intended start times and which ride you're going for, so others can join you. Either here or on the Whatsapp group

I'm away this Sunday so we are eylying on the 'Honesty box' option of self timing. Please record your ride on a suitable device and upload to Strava/Garmin/Wahooo etc and post on the Whatsapp group. I can then assemle the results nd post here for all to see. Have a good ride

A mixture of poor weather forecast (it actually turned out OK apart from the wind) and work commitments meant that only six riders went out on RR2

The times were as follows:-

Mark Rosser    2:56:46  Qualified
Nigel Williams 2:56:46  Qualified
Paul Rosser    3:02:20  Qualified
Reece Adams 3:02:20  Qualified
Mark Bryant   3:02:20  Qualified
Nando           DNF

Well done all

Sunday April 12th will be the second of the club's Reliability rides. Here is the route:-  https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/5527980
Out via Tondu Rd, Fountain Rd, to Margam then Taibach and the Bwlch. Don't forget after descending the Bwlch and going through Ogmore Vale you then have to take a right turn over Llangeinor before crossing the common to Heol y Cyw, Pencoed and the dual back to Ewenny cafe.
Try and stay in groups and help each other, you'll appreciate it later in the ride

There are two time options for RR2:

1) 50 miles in 3 1/2 hours (14 mph)  Start time 8:30
2) 50 miles in 3 hours (16mph)         Start time 9:00

Please sign on at least 15 minutes before your intending start time. i.e 8:15am for the 8:30am start.

The idea is you ride at your own pace and choose a time you think you can ride the distance in. If you are not sure about the route or your pace then team up with other riders of similar ability. This is really important and makes for a more enjoyable ride.

No computers, watches or GPS devices are allowed,
so if you feel the need to record your ride then tape over or cover up screens. Tape will be provided at the start!  ;D

To be 'reliable' or 'qualify' in RR2 you have to finish + or - 10 minutes of your intended time.

I'll be doing the timing, please be prompt in signing on and remember to let me or other riders know if you don't intend to complete the ride.

Please post your intended start times and which ride you're going for, so others can join you.

See you at Brackla for 8:30am start

Club Runs / Re: Easter Sunday club run

Good turnout for Easter Sunday, despite no chocolate eggs on offer. !2 riders, cold breezy start but warming up as the sun broke through.

Out today were Martin, Paul R, Paul N, Scott, Chris, Mark, Nando, Karl (not yet bionic), Rich D, Rich L, Nige and myself. Mark and Martin set a controlled pace early on and boy was I grateful. Karl turned back at Neath and Scott and Paul before the road headed up to Seven Sisters. It's a long drag up to Banwen and after a couple of month break I now realise 70 miles was quite optimistic for my first ride back. Mostly OK on the flat I was found wanting whenever the road tilted up. Thanks all for your patience.

Next week is RR2 and I'll post details later in the week

Don?t forget the clocks change!!

Sunday March 29th will be the first of the club's Reliability rides.
Here is the route:- https://www.strava.com/segments/14027409

The idea is you ride at your own pace and choose a time you think you can ride the distance in. If you are not sure about the route or your pace then team up with other riders of similar ability. This is really important and makes for a more enjoyable ride.

For RR1 there are 2 options:-
50 miles in 3    hours = 16 mph ave speed
50 miles in 2.5 hours = 20 mph ave speed

Start times are 9:00 for 3 hours and 9:30 for the 2.5-hour option.
Please sign on at least 15 minutes before your intending start time. i.e 8:45am for the 9:00am start.

No computers, watches or GPS devices are allowed,
so if you feel the need to record your ride then tape over or cover up screens. Tape will be provided at the start!  ;D

To be 'reliable' or 'qualify' in RR1 you have to finish + or - 10 minutes of your intended time.

The finish is at the Stalling Down next to the Mughal Emperor.

The cafe has closed down, so riders will have to get drop back down into Cowbridge for coffee!

I'll be doing the timing, please be prompt in signing on and remember to let me or other riders know if you don't intend to complete the ride.
please post your intended start times and which ride you're going for, so others can join you.

See you at Brackla for 9:00am start
