Thank you Paul for organising and fellow Oggies for the warm welcome and the fun.
I actually feel OK today so I must have died after the exertion and gone to heaven (some hope).
Roll on the next one. I cannot promise to be any better but I will be there if invited. Timt

Hi Andy. I suspect the coach will have me riding on thecote D'azure. Below the blue line. Thats what happened when I went al9ng for a vets sesdion about 5 years ago with Kyleigh Manners of 42⁰ Coaching. Rightly he did not wany me mixing with the 40 year old youngsters. I hope this time I will get a chance, later in the session, to get above the blue line but only if I last that long. The legs are pretty shaky now after so long off the road.
I shall be wearing a skin suit and taking a very warm jacket for between stints on the track. Also energy drinks. I suspect the temperature might be 8 - 10⁰c if we are lucky. No 22⁰c as in the Olympics.
I shall be there at 2.30pm to get changed and in the centre for 3.00pm. Cannot wait ! Tim

Hi Paul. I am 76 and an Honorary Life Member of OVW. I was once Track Secretary and have an old Track Accreditation. I am also a British Cycling member. I have my own track bike and rode the first winter Track League at Newport 2002/3.
I know Kileigh Manners and last rode in a Vets track session about 7 years ago. I would love to pump up my tyres for the 22nd if it is still on. Probably on the blue line and very slowly but it would be an experience to savour. Norman James and I are going to the National Championships there on 28th January in the morning session. Cheers. Tim

It has been good to see so many people now taking an interest in the rollers so we hope everyone who can stay upright will turn up next Friday.
I may not be able to be there for the whole night because of my home commitments but I intend to be there at 8.00pm so the time trials for seeding can start at 8.30pm and I hope Norman will be there to timekeeping. I hope someone will take over from me for the actual competition. I think Andy is away so could someone else step up please?
Remember there is a trophy at stake here !!!
The full rules will be posted as an attachment later but note as follows.
The field will be seeded according to the 1 kilometer TT on the rollers. Fastest against slowest etc. In knockout rounds in paired riders. Winner of each heat to go forward. One ride only to decide
The final pair will ride best of three
Any bike may be ridden but the gear will be restricted to not more than 80 inches
All riders may have as many seconds / helpers to hold them up as they wish
Each ride is from a standing start and will be for 1 kilometer ( one revolution of the clock)
Shame I will not be able to stay because it's great fun and the riders will need a lot of cheering on. If you are not able to compete please turn up and cheer them on

Roller Competition
Friday 10th February. Club room open at 8.00pm. Competition to start at 8.30 with individual time trials over 1.00km on the competition rollers so the field can be seeded.
It is then a knockout competition with the winners of each pair going forward. 1 ride only between competitors at this stage.
The final will be best of 3 rides
Any bike may be ridden but no gear higher than 80 inches may be used. Look up a gear table to decide what will suit your bike. I will post some advisory combos of gears shortly under a separate Roller Race heading.
It's a fun event.
You may use as many seconds/supporters as you wish to hold you up if you want to try that.
It is a standing start so it is important to train your fast start
We have the training rollers in the Club house so you can practice ANY Friday before the event.

Coaching & Training / Re: Training intensity
« on: January 13, 2017, 07:21:53 PM »
Like anything _ choose a goal and work up to it. Train most on your weaker points. If you are racing 70 miles train 70 miles and be sure to do the intensity too. None of it happens without the dedication and _ for endurance sports _ that means discomfort and pain management. Time on the bike on the road.
If you want it ! ! ! ! !
Been there and done it but my pain threshold is much lower at 70 _ and I do not want it enough now. I am not sure if I want that lost mojo anymore. Perhaps enough for a few 10's this season ? January is a desperate month for motivation !
I know ! I will pretend I am going to Majorca and need to get fit enough to get up the Tremontanas and enjoy a pizza and on The Square in Pollenca afterwards. I will look for speed later.

Teresa thanks

Happy New Year and apologies for the 6th. I am attempting to go on my annual Beacons walking holiday, albeit as a day walker, and I suspect that I shall be very busy Friday night at home on my return

Tim

PS Andy is away on the 13th but plans to arrange a turbo training night on Friday 20th January

Rob this is brilliant news

Well done. I certainly know how much is involved to even get to this stage. I am both pleased and impressed that you are willing to endure the stress on the day itself.

It is great to see the amount of support you have already generated from club members. We have a great crowd and I am sure this will only increase as time passes. You have only to look at the enthusiasm for Majorca !

I will make sure I am available for the day and am happy to act in any capacity

Note that we still have the car top signs and the radio equipment in the lockup. You may want to have a look at this kit sometime to consider what new/other kit you will want. I think our direction signs are looking a bit sad and coloured flags may not be complete.

Well done

I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas. Best regards to them

Andy

I will get the competition rollers out and bring mine along too. I think it is time I got back on the bike and started my training for the Roller Competition in mid-February.

Now is a good time for novices to get started

Many thanks Andy. A great night again with many surprises and a lot of laughs.
Thanks especially to Craig and Mark who brought some quality stuff again, some of which I managed to get. All I need now is some garage time to play with it for next season.

Don't forget folks. We have an auction every year so don,t bin the bits you take off the bike when you repair/upgrade. As Keith demonstrated you can even get £1.00 for rust. I hope that Mary and Alan have now painted it a suitable colour to grace their front garden _ mounted on that quality Turbo. I am sure they would welcome any ideas about the colour/design/location if Alan has not already taken executive action

Great event

We shall miss your computer wizardry and your bidding nouse !
So far I have had no feedback as to what is to turn up, or who so it will be a total surprise to everyone. Exciting !

Any questions about what to bring or the format ?
Andy will be at Brackla for the Sunday Club Run tomorrow and will be promoting next Friday
Speak to other clubs or riders at the café stop and let them know it is on and that they will be very welcome to come.
I will speak to Ride Bike Wales in Llantrisant today. Last year they sent along old and returned stock and some other interesting bits like bike stands etc.
Clothing seems to be very popular and also very cheap so it is a good time to pick up kit for winter riding or on the Turbo where no one will see the miss_match !

Thanks Andy.
Under a bit of pressure at the moment so your post is very helpful
Yes folks, it's on again. If you were not at the Club Dinner last week you have only this weekend to dig around for stuff to put in the auction.
Invite your friends who may not be club members, family or other cyclists, particularly if they are building a bike or refurbishing . It's amazing what turns up. The more potential buyers the better off will the Club Funds will be and the more dosh will go to those selling.
It's a laugh ! See if you can trick someone in to paying too much ! It's risky though, you could end up with the item yourself.
We do hope to have the support of all club members, the more who come the better whether bidding or not.
Expect to finish about 9.30pm unless we have a lot of Lots. Let's hope so !
Shall I bring one of my stable of 9 bikes. Perhaps not, I need them all !
Tim
