General Discussion / 2023 mileage and targets for 2024 !
« on: December 31, 2023, 05:03:51 PM »
This post comprises three parts;
1) Your mileage for 2023.
2) Your excuses/ mitigation for not doing as many miles as you hoped in 2023 ( prizes for the most inventive!)
3) Your aspirations for 2024.

1) 5729 miles
2) Spent too much time abroad enjoying ourselves!
3) Should be over 8,000 if I remain injury free. Mixture of on and off road with some racing!

A great account of something extraordinary. The story certainly gives you an insight into how it feels doing this event. Most of us would not be able to even consider doing PBP and for you to complete it so soon after a severe injury says a lot for your physical and mental strength.

Well done!

General Discussion / Congratulations to our long distance heroes!
« on: July 10, 2023, 06:17:34 PM »
Over the past few days Andy and Dave have taken on some exceptional challenges and I want to recognise what they have achieved. To ride such long distances takes a lot of preparation as well as a massive amount of physical and mental resilience. Other skills such as navigation and logistics are also needed!

Clearly they are both bonkers to take on these challenges, but even if the rest of us were equally bonkers, we could never do it!

Congratulations to you both!

Great ride report and chapeau on doing a ride of that length in wintry conditions!  Disappointed that this has not motivated you to do another, even longer one!
Maybe it's like childbirth, agony at the time but easier as the memory fades..
(please note, I have no idea what childbirth is like, but Carol told me in no uncertain terms - most of which were four letter words, at the time!)

Great report and looking forward to a blow by blow report on the next one!

These audax types are crazy superstars. One of the guys on Sunday had done PBP twice and LEL! ( also a double Ironman for a bit of a change).

His bike was interesting with a dynamo front hub, which charged his lights, computer, phone etc.

His next challenge is the trans- continental, in case you want something to aim for!

Mark, you will be fine, their bark is worse than their bite. Just put a rope around Rob and let him give you a tow!

Thanks to everyone who came along last night, it was great to see so many of you. Thanks for my card and pressie too! All I need now is a nice OVW trip to warmer climes to try it out!

Just a gentle reminder about my leaving 'do' tomorrow. A drink from me and some food too - what's not to like?
