Club Runs / Re: The pudding run saturday 27th December
« on: December 27, 2025, 05:56:28 PM »
:)The pudding run returned and it was a good ride out. 10 out today, Mark R,Chris G,Rich B, Rich D,Tony M, Karl W, Ross w, Henry (missed the start but made it to the pub), Andy and myself. The late start was to allow the Plough and Harrow  to open before we got there. From Brackla off to Park street to the A48 turning left upto Ewenny roundabout and down to the the coast to go arround Ogmore. By this point a few had noted Karl had new bib tights on so the view from behind (excuse the pun) was much better. Karl doing a turn on the front was also a nice change. The pace was a little faster than expected around Ogmore and a call was made to remind us all its a social ride today. We then stayed as a group around the coast and onto the TT course with a tailwind. Over the turn rounabout for the TT and straight on to the bottom lights then right turn into Boverton and on to Llantwitt. Still as a group with plenty of chatting through the lanes to The Plough and Harrow. No coffee and cakes on the menu today with most having a Christmas tipple with a selection of plate of chips, Fish and chips, Cowl or soup. Our arrival was timed well as the place soon filled up. A few of us left the pub early as we had family commitments and said our farewells with the plan to meet  up tomorrow for a ride. Looks like 2 rides out tomorrow with the 12 hills of Christmas or the pacers smashfest to Cardiff. Happy christmas all.

Club Runs / 16th Nov club ride

8 out today for a mixed group ride. Mark R, Mark J, Carl C, Karl W, Paul R, Martin, Lewis and me (Nige). left Brackla on time heading through Pencoed on to PontyClun, Miskin Groessfaen then lanes to Culver turning of of at St Andrews through Penarth Barry back along the  coast. All stayed together taking turns on the front and a nice pace for all. Couple of incidents on the way, Carl C on his first ride since the retirn from Mallorca had squeeky brakes for the ride but also had a peddle come of at Miskin.  Guess it was a rush assembly post Mallorca and didnt tighten up enough, anyway peddle  back on and we continued to Barry for a coffee stop and we timed it fantastic as we had the place to ourselves. Heading back via the airport Martin dropped a bottle so a slight delay but all underway till the TT round about at Llantwitt when following a bang the sole to my right shoe came adrift so mostly one legged cycling the last 15 miles. All stayed together till the Ogmore by sea turn when Paul and I went round the coast with others going on through death valley. A nice winter ride with nice tail wind home. As agreed at the AGM we all stayed together  and noone in the red. Hope to see you all next week.

Club Runs / club ride sunday 31st August
« on: September 01, 2025, 07:27:27 AM »
The weather forecast looked bad, but as it turned out it was OK. Braving the weather  Mark R,Paul R, Reece, Carl W, Richard, Rob and Nigel. On the way to Brakla some lost souls were seen out on a ride (Tony and Mark B) and during our ride we also came across Rich B and Chris G and again meeting them at the cafe. Good ride around the Vale to Barrybados and back along the coast. Ar Brakla Rich had a puncture  but tubeless saved the day and it soon sealed and ride completed with no issues.....tubeless the way to go ;).

As numbers have reduced on those attending the club rides we have been riding as a mixed group for a while and happy to inform those not sure on riding that we stick to a no drop rule. Good group rides sticking together  with regrouping on any climbs. Be good to see more out on the rides and perhaps get back to a number of groups going out.

Next Monday the 8th is club night at the club house and we will be discussing the trips away for next year ( committee meeting also possible). We need to get the March/April trip sorted as flights will be out soon, so is it Mallorca, Altea Mojaca or something different. Plenty to talk about over a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Hi all,

as posted on on the what's app groups, a few of us are heading off from Pencoed/Brynna roundabout at 08:00 for a ride to Tintern Abbey and back via the bat cave. It is  approx 120 miles trip, ride will be at the pace of slowest rider with a no drop rule. A rumor has started that we may see Dave W doing a club ride even though its only a small ride!!!!! Link to ride below all welcome.

General Discussion / Last club night (14 July) update
« on: July 21, 2025, 10:34:51 AM »
Hi all,

for those that could not make it, last Monday we had a speaker at the clubhouse to ask us on our experiences of riding in the local area. We had a great open discussion and below is an email from Kevin.

Hi Nigel,
I just wanted to e mail you to thank the wheelers for  the opportunity to visit with you last Monday evening. I enjoyed the conversation regarding your members experiences out on the road and I  will feed this back to Cycling UK for the meeting with Go Safe at some point to be decided.

To summarise your members were particularly  interested  in  the following points.

Road safety and close pass appears to be getting worse.
The current status of operation snap.
Road surface conditions
Enforcement of existing rules of the road
Education of drivers
We talked about how as cyclists they felt they were better drivers around other cyclists
Incorporating bike ability training into the driving test.
The fact that given the type of riding they do  cycling infrastructure may not offer them a direct benefit.
I asked in the event of me organising a Kidical.  mass ride in the future, would the club consider assisting with marshalling.

I will definitely be in touch for the Kidical Mass ride early next year.

Thank again to the Wheelers and Mr Nigel Williams.
