Title: Amblers' Ride - Sunday 1 Feb
Post by: Mark Pope on January 30, 2015, 06:09:26 PM
It's still too cold to go high so my proposal for Sunday is:

Brackla - Coity - the Common - Heol-Y-Cyw - Brynna - Talbot Green - Miskin - the Vineyard - Pendoylan - Bonvilston - Crosstown - Llancadle - Aberthaw - St Athan - Llantwit Major - the Lanes - St Brides - around the Coast via Ogmore - Brackla

It's around 47 miles and we can stop for coffee at Cafe Velo. The road from the A48 after Bonvilston to Crosstown and Llancadle has been resurfaced and is in good nick, so the roads should be pretty decent throughout the ride. The alternative route via Llantrithyd is a bit moist and recent hedge cutting makes punctures more likely.

As with the Pacers and 25ers the 'Spring' start time commences this Sunday, so see you all at 0900.

My plan for the morning is to watch the Australian Open Final until the point where I become totally exasperated at Murray's ineptitude (which may well arrive by 9 o clock)whereupon I will go out on the bike and pedal furiously(to vent my frustration) around the Amblers route but(of course) in the opposite direction hoping to bump into you all!

Is that the same ineptitude that's got him to a grand  slam final, again?

I have to be pessimistic-it's the hope that kills you not the losing

Well, didn't it turn out nice today after all, if a tad chilly. After a tentative start due to the icy surface the Sun came out and we were able to ride at a steady pace around the Vale. By the time we reached the Ogmore Riviera it was a positively balmy 6 degrees. The following Amblers were out on the road this morning:

Andrew S
Paul
Roy 2
Richard B
Chris R
Wayne
Jonathan
Mark P

We also caught up with Terry, Tony & Carrie in Cafe Velo and we bumped into Tom blasting up the hill to Ogmore, no doubt venting his frustration at having decided to stay in and watch Andy Murray's defeat in the Australian Open. The total distance from Brackla to Brackla was just under 46 miles, due to me missing a turn near Pendoylan (I don't think anyone noticed!), although the bonus was the slightly cheeky hill up from Pendoylan to the A48. All in all a surprisingly good morning's ride.

Yes you've got it there Mark.In fact I feel I need to put on record my apologies both to Murray and all his fans for having clearly jinxed any chance he had of winning by altering my schedule  especially to support him.I have a nagging feeling he'd have won if I'd gone out on the Club Run
