Post by: Andy H on October 03, 2014, 12:37:36 PM
Finally able to make a club run!

As a gentle re-introduction,  :)  suggest Brackla, Laleston, Cefn Cribbwr, Neath, Rhos, Alltwen, Glais, Skewen, Cimla, Brackla about 55 miles

See you Sunday!

Half marathon on Sunday and then I will be able to ride weekends again. Not enjoyed this running malarkey at all.

Andy any tips for a half marathon distance run?

Thanks

Don't get carried away at the start!

Get into your own rhythm and don't worry about how many people pass you early on, you'll be catching a lot of them up in the latter stages if you pace yourself.

Have a good one!

I'll be there. Last time did that route I completely bonked at Glais - will be hoping to avoid a repeat.

My alternative club run on two legs. Unofficial time of 1:45.23  ;D
Very happy with that. Hanging up my trainers and getting my cleats back on.

Good time Shawn, hope the weather was better than the Pacers found heading west to Swansea!

Good pacers ride today. Steve C, Andrew S, Ben North, Jason T, Andy H, Harpo, Wayne and Chris R (and me). Pace reasonable, and nobody was struggling. Grotty wet and cold from Margam to Neath, but brightened up after that. Some good climbing on Rhos, Glais and Cimla, but greasy descents a bit hairy, although it was a drain cover on a flat section at Cwmavon that nearly derailed me. Ben North climbing well.

Good to have a relatively big group out for pacers, but I think we need to be careful to single out a bit more readily when there are so many - a few drivers getting impatient and doing some dodgy passing, and while we may have had every right to be riding two abreast, it would have been small comfort lying on the orthopaedic ward. Just an observation 😉

With so many members wonderfully kitted out in the club colours and with "Ogmore Valley" easily identified on the kit, it is not unknown for drivers who have been inconvenienced in some way or who have a comment to make, to look up the club on the internet and make their feelings known via the 'contact us' facility on our website.

Is there some way we can reduce the numbers in each group, large groups like the Amblers make for very difficult for some vehicles to  pass.

A combo of steep hills and rudeness is proven to be highly effective!

I know I haven't been on a club run for ages, but feel qualified enough to say that there is give and take on both sides.  Some people will be happy, some won't - that's life.
Nothing wrong with large or small groups or single riders etc.  How about tractors, horses, Sundays drivers................

I find just as much aggression from other cars whether I am driving or cycling sadly.30mph in a 30 zone past a school seems to excite them the most. Its just the way people are.
Best just ignored. Or put two fingers up and hide behind someone big.
