Title: Newbie Time Trialling
Post by: Chris Reed on June 11, 2014, 11:00:00 AM
Hi all,

Chatting last night a few of us thought it might help if the newbies to Open TTs gave their planned TT events for the season here (safety in numbers and all that)

So mine are,

15/07 10M R10/22a Port Talbot Whls ENTERED
02/08 10M R10/17 www.realteam.co.uk PLANNED
07/09 25M R25/3L Port Talbot WhLS PLANNED
13/09 10M R10/17 Cardiff 100milers PLANNED

Good idea Chris, could also help with arranging transport.

As a relative newcomer to TTs myself the best advice I can give is just to give it a go. There's nothing to fear, people of all levels compete and with all sorts and standards of equipment.

I found the thing that makes the biggest difference (apart from hard training) is using clip-on tri bars. Definitely helps get a better aerodynamic position but important to practice with them lots before the event.
Also they are not very inexpensive when compared to deep sectioned wheels, aero frames etc

Chris,

Events on the R25/3 are very popular and you are unlikely to get a ride unless there is an overflow event.  You need to do the ride to get on the course - a bit Catch 22!

I'm also planning to do;
R10/17 on 1 July

Plus:
One in Pembrokeshire on 24 August I think

And am already entered
R10/22A on 20 June organised by Bynea.

I need to fill the gap between late July and the Pembrokeshire event.

I've entered
22/6 Bynea R25/3l
1/7 R10/7
5/7 R25/7
15/7 R10/22a
For now.

Only 120 in the Bynea event, may require a quick time to get in, other events with an extra 120 in the overflow were under subscribed this season, so a full 240 event most should get in.

The Bynea event entry number has been extended to 150, there were a few annoyed riders at Resolven yesterday who had not entered.
