The aim of the Chasers rides is for a pleasant 50 to 60 mile ride, enjoyed in good company, occasionally going fast downhill whilst achieving an elevation gain never in excess of 1 metre per kilometre.

Alas not today, Mr Bowmer left us to fend for ourselves whilst smoothing his delicate hamstrings, rootless!

6 Chasers out today for the 53 miles of The Dead Enders route taking in Garw valley and also Gilfach Goch, where nobody in our group had ever ventured previously. Carl, Scott, Mark, Tim, Paul and myself on what was the warmest ride of the last 2 months.

With Carl foolishly offering from the start that he'd not been on the bike for 6 weeks, the ambition was set from the get go, to push him as hard as we could and break him to submission so that he'd never be as remiss in the future to take such an extended break.

Some early flat miles around Waterton before heading up the Garw valley on the west side of the valley, turning in Pontycymmer and heading back down on the other side of the valley brought us out in Llangeinor where we climbed over into the Ogmore Valley. A quick derobing of vests for Mark and I and then it was onto the Glynogwr climb and up to the citadel of Gilfach Goch with Tim and Carl leading the way out of the village as if they were the leaders of the Great Escape. An unplanned deviation over the Smilog, past the Castle Mynach and we were soon in Peterston Super  Ely and now into Pacer territory of it being more than 40 miles without a stop.

Coffee in Costa in Cowbridge where at least 4 of us managed to find seats in the shade before heading off to the Ridgeway

Although we thought that we may have cracked him earlier on in the ride over Llangeinor and also Glynogwr, Carl stayed up with everyone before we eventually were able to say mission accomplished as we came across the Ridgeway towards Corntown.

After this we thought Tim had taken the short route home via the dipping bridge, alas unseen by the rest of us he had suffered a snapped chain and had to endure the indignity of a scoot home. Fortunately, as his wife failed to respond to an emergency and pick him up, Tim is now entitled to purchase a brand new bike!

As ever great company all the way around - see you all next week at the later time of 10am.

Perhaps despite his continued French leave of absence in the coming weeks Mr B might devise some flatter routes for us to enjoy !

This ride report made me laugh 😄

I had a notification from Strava the other day saying ‘Carl uploaded their first activity in a while, deal some kudos’ which also made me laugh 😆
