Title: Pacers 7 May
Post by: RobC on May 04, 2023, 10:21:40 AM
Mist clearing, light westerly. How about a trip to the seaside? Repeat of Dave's route last year to Rhossili.

Paul, Dave and me out on an overcast morning, heading into a gentle breeze towards the Gower. Dave feeling fresh after a couple of weekends of intensive recovery was dragging us along from the go. My muesli must have passed its sell by date, because the hallucinations were kicking in through Port Talbot and it looked like Paul was doing a solid turn on the front into the wind. Through Swansea and the skies were turning black with some rain in the air, but it mostly evaporated as we came through Pen-clawdd and headed through the marshes by the coast. Mucky puddles on this road, not helped by Dave and his new bike displaying the kind of selfish attitude to mudguard adherence that would earn you severe flogging at Darlington CC.

On to the Gower lanes and adopting the usual Pacers’ resolute approach we laughed in the face of multiple “Road Closed” signs. Right up until some idiot had roped 2 meter high barriers across a lane. Paul was able to teleport to the other side, while Dave exhibited the kind of effortless agility that has rightly earned him the nickname Twinkle-Toes.

We’d all been considering buying a new Colnago C68 each, with Dura Ace and Enve wheels; but instead we ordered a coffee and small piece of cake from the Bay Bistro at Rhossili. A fairly brisk jaunt home, mostly sitting on Twinkle-Toes’ wheel and another enjoyable ride.

Next week I’m riding the Making Hay Audax on Saturday, so am very unlikely to be out on Sunday.
