This is the second of our Open Time Trials this year. (Steve Landeg is organising the Carl Roach Memorial 25). We are light on open events in 2014. Even though the mid-week 10's will run throughout the summer, these are club events with restricted entry and very low fees.
Because it is Celtic Series I would encourage all club members to enter so we can get points but please remember that I also need volunteers to marshal, put up signs, do the entries/numbers, fill out the Results Board and, most important of all, do the teas.
I have had great support in the last two years and I hope I shall not have to chase volunteers but, in the event I do not have them, I have the opportunity to ask registered riders to sacrifice their ride to help.
HQ at St Athan Camp Welfare Hall has been booked, this is an excellent venue. The course is not flat so do not expect a fast time but it is a great opportunity to get points for the club so, if you have not entered yet, please do so.

Ron. I enquirer about the roadworks three weeks ago and still await a response. Since I have been away a lot I need to chase again and will post here when I have an answer. I believe we will be OK by June but I cannot take the chance.
Thanks all for your support. I think we should be OK on the day if I chase around a bit so, everyone else, please get your entries in so we have a good Oggie presence.

CHANGE OF COURSE
Ron was quite right to be concerned here. After a long discussion with the Vale of Glamorgan it transpires that the roadworks affecting the R10/9 from St Athan to Rhoose will continue intermittently until the end of August. Since I cannot get a commitment that the traffic lights will not be there on 10th June I have applied for - and got- CTT permission to use the R10/22a at Resolven. The much faster course.
The event will now have TRW Sports Club as its HQ and will start on the Industrial Estate road nearby at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 10th June.
It will join the A465 at Resolven roundabout and go west to Aberdulais where it will turn and return to Resolven roundabout, taking first exit to join the B4242 and go left to finish a few yards west of that junction.
I shall need about 10 club members to help marshal etc. The catering is OK with Mary and Alan so the jobs remaining are; 2 pushers off (there are 90 riders); a timekeepers 'spotter' or observer for Robin Field; 3 marshals at Resolven and 4 at Aberdulais. Stephen will do the results Board at HQ after his ride. It would be helpful if another rider could help him with that (or a non rider volunteer).
I have a good number of volunteers already. If your name is not in the correspondence above and you are not riding then please help if you can and let me know as soon as you read this.
I want as many Oggies to ride as possible so, get your application in now if you have not already done so. This is a fast course and demand is likely to be high from other clubs.
I am on holiday for a week from 21st May so please respond early.

I've entered, can I have a late start please? Working until 6pm :'(
Can stand down and help out if needed but can't see me getting there before 7!
-
I'll help out at the finish/ timekeeping. Need to come straight from work as well..
-
Happy to Marshall.
-
Happy to help out

Hi Tim
I am entered and will be another coming straight from work, happy to provide a tray of cakes if required and offer assistance elsehwere
Cheers

At least we know what's going on now, is that August this year it will be finished? I will be at my villa that week but after the excellent turnout of marshals for our 25 there should be now problems. Perhaps a bigger entry for a more popular course, more money for the club.
-
Thanks all for your support so far. I will be in touch nearer the date with duties etc. I hope to hear from a lot more members yet !
It would be good if I could hear from a few newbies who have no experience of TT's but would like to see how they go. Perhaps one of you would particularly like to help with pushing off. You get to see the riders and their bikes and see how they spend the last few minutes in preparation before starting their ride.

In my case talking too much.
I've entered and could do with a later start time that my legs won't justify.
Happy to ride / help though.

Newbie here! Offering my services
-
Hi
I am offering my services to help any way I can. :-*
-
Tractor please at exactly 30mph ;D
-
I'd would be happy to help in any way I can (provided that the baby doesn't decide to make an early appearance!).
-
Thanks all for your offers of help.
Does anyone specifically want to push of. One Newby should do it with one experienced at it !
Entries are now closed and it looks as if we have 65 riders in total.
Steve Landeg is doing the Rider Start Sheet for me and I will get him also to attach that and the Start Cover Sheet to a posting here. Just so you can all have sight of it before the event next week.
It is a fast course (with few tractors). I managed to beat my Standard Time on it in April, even with a gammy leg and no winter training so on a good night ?
I will post again later this week with allocated jobs.
Thanks again folks.

Tim can you edit the main title, the location still says St Athan, could confuse a new member. Thanks
-
It was changed this morning ;)

'' Attached are the Start Sheets for next Tuesdays Time Trial in Resolven. I am greatly indebted to Steve Landeg for the IT in sorting out the Riders list. I almost defy any other member to do this because it requires so many skills.
I am still short of at least two volunteers. I need an experienced club member to assist a newby at pushing off and number keeper at HQ who will also assist Mary and Allan with the teas. Please volunteer now so that I can allocate jobs without having to pull any of the clubs riders from the race. Thanks. Tim''

Thanks for that change Teresa, I'm not about till Friday but with close to 90 members someone can spare a few hours to help the "Regulars" out. Only one week to go so please put your hand up and offer some help, there may be a cup of tea in it.
-
If you are stuck I can do numbers etc, won't be able to be there before 1745 at the earliest.
-
I agreed with Tim yesterday to get there by 5-30 to do the numbers.
-
I can do results and presentations - will need the board etc set up as I will be dashing from work...
-
Tim, as per our quick chat on Thursday - happy to come & help in any way.

UPDATE
That's it folks. The scene is set for a great night on Tuesday. We have 68 entries which include 10 Oggies with a good chance we might win something this year although the competition is pretty stiff. Please download and read the Start Sheet for details.
Duties for all the helpers (see below for newbie marshals at Aberdulais) have been allocated. HQ at Resolven is booked for 5.00pm when Allan and Mary will be there to set up the teas and Richard B is to put out the Competition numbers and take charge of riders signing on.
The first riders start at 18.33 and I will be at the start with Start Timer Robin Field and the two Pushers Off, Terry and Haydn.
Marshals at the Resolven Roundabout are Wayne and Chris and Neil Bartlett is in charge of marshals Roy H; Tony M and Andy Green who are all newbies at the Aberdulais turn
I still need two marshals at Resolven to give direction and assist with safety at the junction with the B4242. Anyone reading this who can be available please either ring or text me on 07840 338754 or turn up at latest 6.00pm on the night. This is a very important marshalling point and your presence would be much appreciated.
Your President, Norman James, is Finish Timekeeper. If there is another member who would like to sit with him to record numbers of finishing riders, that too would be appreciated.
Your Chairman Steven Madeley is in charge of the Result Board and will do the presentations after the event. All riders who have competed are asked to gather at the Result Board with Steven to assist with the 'sums'.
All marshals should have dayglow jackets. These will be at HQ from 5.00pm onward. I advise that you should wear stout shoes or boots and have waterproofs if the forecast is for possible rain. Would all marshals also ensure that any signs at your marshalling points are brought back to HQ at the end of the event.
The marshals job is to give 'presence' to the event. You are not allowed to stop or interfere with traffic but you may give direction to the riders and indicate to motorists the presence of cyclists. Riders are expected to know the course and you are not responsible should they go off course (unless you direct them off).
All helpers please return to HQ for a cup of tea and a piece of cake afterwards and, if you can, stay for the presentations.
Please note everyone, we have not booked the large car park and the owner has been known to take car registration numbers of those who park there. It is therefore at your own risk if you do.
See you Tuesday

Hi Tim
I am working up that way on Tuesday, so could you put me down to keep Norman company?
Thanks
Teresa
-
Thanks Teresa
It's good to know that your both up to it and up for it. It's nice to get out but the forecast is variable. Make sure Norman keeps you in the car or you have a large umbrella handy and some nice warm woolies under your waterproofs.

Good event tonight with some good times despite challenging conditions. It stayed dry but windy on the way out. An excellent and well- organised event. Thanks to Tim and everyone else who helped out.
-
Once again another superb OVW event. Superb marshalling, pushing off, results, teas, cakes and timing (though I seem to be stuck on 27, last four times almost identical).
Much to contemplate on the way home...time to try something different
-
Just wanted to say thank you to Steve and Tim for organising such a great event.
Thanks to all the helpers and marshals who helped allowing us riders who were fortunate to ride to represent such a "Great Club"
A course PB for me so pleased although I would have been happier with a short 23.!!!
Thanks again all !!!
Cheers.
Mark.

Thanks for the thanks guys !
Now I have recovered a bit (my supper at 10.00pm was porridge and malt whisky - yum !) I have collected my thoughts.
Steve was superb with the IT (I might have mentioned this before but I need to keep him motivated until the Result Sheet has been completed) and we had two great teams out there. Both the team who made the event and the lads on the road. Well done everyone. What a great club we have !
Everyone seems to have a story from the event. Please post a few of these if you feel like it, for our amusement.
Mine is from the start line when I was alongside Robin Field, the Start Timekeeper with the two pushers-off, Terry and Haydn. Terry was doing the work when I got there. Properly dressed with marshals jacket and sensible shoes and trousers. Haydn (dressed in shorts and T shirt), who has not pushed off before but who had volunteered to try it out, watched. After about 30 riders had gone I suggested Haydn should have a go. He was hugging riders track suit tops by then. He said Terry was doing a good job ! and declined. After about 50 riders had gone I suggested he should have a go again. By this time he was shaking, said he should take the track suits to HQ and left ! Terry pushed off all the riders ! Haydn was good company when he was there, a bit quiet towards the end though.
The Result Sheet is being done now. Look out for it here to see how your Oggie friends did.

Well done everyone.
Pushing off is a huge responsibility - Maybe another time for Hayden.
Top tip from the finish line. Do not swing wide at the final roundabout with one hand on the end of your aeros and the other trying to find your watch and at the same time, trying (and failing) to miss the gravel patches. It will never end well.
Also riders dashing round the corner and shouting "where's the finish" - Well generally where the chequered board is with the two rather large fluorescent signs either side of it.
And lastly - I don't believe you had porridge, Tim. I though you were going to have eat the cakes for your tea ;)
