This Sunday will be the first of the club's Reliability rides. Here is the route:- https://www.strava.com/segments/14027409
The idea is you ride at your own pace and choose a time you think you can ride the distance in. If your not sure about the route or your pace then team up with other riders of similar ability.
For RR1 there are 4 options:-
50 miles in 4 hours =12.5 mph ave speed
50 miles in 3.5 hours = 14 mph ave speed
50 miles in 3 hours = 16 mph ave speed
50 miles in 2.5 hours = 20 mph ave speed
Start times are 8:00 for the 4 hours option, 8:30 for 3.5 hour option, 9:00 for 3 hours and 9:30 for 2.5 hour option.
Please sign on at least 15 minutes before your intending start time. i.e 7:45am for the 8am start.
No computers, watches or GPS devices are allowed, so if you feel the need to record your ride then tape over or cover up screens.
To be 'reliable' or 'qualify' in RR1 you have to finish + or - 10 minutes of your intended time.
The finish is at 'Stalling cafe' (used to be Hannah's cafe & vale kitchen)
I'll be doing the timing please be prompt in signing in and remember to let me or other riders know if you don't intend completing the ride.

Can I please remind everybody to obey the Highway code and not to ride on pavements, cut across junctions or run red lights.
Not only is it against the 'spirit' of these rides, it's also pretty stupid!
Feel free to try and 'beat' the times set for reliability but do it safely.
-
Looks like met will add to the fun on RR1. Wind 25mph gusting over fifty - be bright, be safe, don't overlap wheels!
-
Here's a suggestion
What about pulling it forward to the Saturday ( if the weather is still okay on that day)?
-
Makes sense instead of running it another day. I'm ok with doing the timing on Saturday.
-
How many people will see this before Saturday?
Can we make sure to inform by word of mouth, as well as on social media.
I'm happy to go with changing to Saturday, although I can't make it myself.
Does anybody else have an opinion?
-
Makes sense to go for Saturday. I’ll need to check what my family commitments are that day, but will aim to be there going for the 3hr option (9am start)

I will contact the Vale Kitchen and ask them to bake the extra cakes for Saturday instead of Sunday!

Just checked. Yes, I’ll be there on Saturday 😁
-
Are we going to start changing clubs runs to a Saturday as well if the weather is better? thought there was room for a cancellation for bad weather on the calendar
-
Saturday ok with me
-
I'm inclined to agree Haydn, there will definitely be people who won't see the message and turn up disappointed, on Sunday. There are 2 sundays available before Mallorca trip, we could postpone RR1, to.
-
I'm okay for Saturday if ride goes ahead.
-
im just getting wound up because its my mates Memorial ride and cant ride it because im working, if was still called the RR1 then i wouldnt be bothered. :'(
-
Final decision is to postpone the RR1 until Sunday 23rd February. I think this is the best option, anybody who wants a social ride on Saturday can still get out but means that people won't miss out on doing the reliability ride
Sorry to cause any confusion!
-
I will notify the café so they don't bake extra cakes.
If anyone does want to come out on Saturday ( and get back for the Rugby!) , I suggest 0900 at Brackla.
-
I can go with Sat (or another date) 3hrs option for me too
-
RR1 will go ahead this Sunday 23rd February
I'll be doing the 3 1/2 hour option
-
I can go with Sat (or another date) 3hrs option for me too
I will join you on the 3 hour option Steve
-
How many of you are riding the 8am start time? I'll be there from 7.40 with the sign on sheet.
-
BBC has issued a weather warning for Sunday strong winds and rain.
-
I’ll be there for the 9am/3 hour start. Looks like it may be wet at start, but drying up through the morning but windy the whole time.
-
Sorry the strong winds and rain forecast for the morning and the weather warning means we will have to postpone RR1,......again!
I think the best option is to move RR1 to next Sunday, RR2 the following week and revise the date for RR3 some time after Mallorca trip.
Any thought?
-
What date will this be run now?
-
What date will this be run now?
it will be on this sunday 8th March
I will be there with my stop watch and clip board to do the timing.
fingers crossed there are no more storms heading this weekend and I'm sure your all prepared and ready to ride on sunday what ever the weather!!
**(common sense if you have been to a COVID19 affected area then please don't attend and enjoy your self isolation)
the weather at the moment (BBC weather ) it is going to be light rain showers and a fresh breeze (19-20mph) from the west south west
can you please post your intended start time here!!
-
I have locked the other RR post, so that should keep everyone on the same page (so to speak) ::)
-
8:30 start, 3 1/2 hours for me. Training very limited the last 6 weeks so should be enough of a challenge just doing 50 miles....
-
9:00 start. Because I don't want to get up early, rather than any expectation of sticking to the average having not been out for a month.
-
9am for me
-
Hi 9am if its not hissing down! ::)
-
9.00am start time for me.
-
9am for me
-
Just been around the rr1 route and it will be on tomorrow. Can those of you who requested the 8am start can you please post here if you are riding or not??
One thing to watch out for tomorrow is potholes there are some big ones along the wick road..see you all tomorrow😁
-
9am for me.
-
Looks like a few of the normal 2.30 group are opting for the 3 hr start time of 9. No one has indicated they are going for the 9.30 start. Am I going to find that I’m the only one? If you plan going at the 9.30 start can you post here. Otherwise I’ll go for the 9am start. Don’t want to be billy-no-mates
-
Fin and I will join Andy at 8:30.
-
And they are off 16 riders in total
8am zero riders who ever suggested this time owes me coffee and cake for getting up early.
8.30am 4 riders set off, one of them is 11.
9am 12 riders set off for the smash fest
