So the weather is meant to be grand this Sunday, so get your climbing shoes on and lets get some hills in those legs. I was going to do a 50ish mile route over the Bwlch to Port Talbot but there was a landslide in Cymmer the other day so not sure whether that will have been cleared by Sunday....which has forced me to go for a Bwlch-Rhigos double hit which is 63 miles. Hope this is ok with everyone.
We are looking for PB's up the Bwlch and the Rhigos, so smash it up them as much as you like. Prior to, in between and the long run home we will be riding as a solid group with stronger riders helping the weaker riders to keep the speed up/steady.
So out via Heol Spencer and down to Bryncethin, across at the roundabout to take the road to the bottom of the club hill climb. Up over Llangeinor for a leg stretcher and then up to the first classified climb of the day...THE BWLCH...descend down where we will re-group before the left turn to Treorchy. Head through and to the 2nd classified climb...THE RHIGOS...smash it up and down the other side before regrouping at the roundabout. We will then turn left and follow the road through Cefn Rhigos, Glynneath, Resolven, Neath, Briton Ferry with coffee stop at Remos in on Aberavon front (48 miles at this point). We'll then come back with any remaining energy being expended along Harbour Way, then back home via Margam, Pyle, Stormy Down and back into Bridgend.
Unofficial KOM points will be on offer for the two classified climbs for which the grand prize (accumulation of points over the two) will be a Strava kudos and possibly a comment from myself!
The 63 miles and the climby nature isn't meant to put anyone off, but improve peoples climbing ability going into the warmer months and nobody will be left on their own the other side of the Rhigos so don't panic about that.
Hope to see you all there, will be a good day out

A wise man once said "A plan is only made to be altered..." Not a clue who it was though! Rhigos was off the start sheet from the off and 8 of us decided we hit Llangeinor and the Bwlch before turning down the Afan Valley. Climbed up through Coity, across to the road to Llangeinor, up and over that for a decent leg waker then up towards the Bwlch. I've been told Machine Mike took the polka dot jersey after maximum points up both Llangeinor and the Bwlch. Roy had a puncture on the descent from the Bwlch and by the time we'd all reconvened after the coloured cottages Rich had called and they were working through 3 inner tubes to get it fixed!! After a few minutes Carl had to head off for home and the remainders climbed back up the Bwlch for moral support. Fixed and onto the 2nd decent of the Bwlch at which point we passed the Amblers coming the other way and caught up with Hannah who had smashed it down the decent.
After that it was an uneventful drift back to Port Talbot then home via Parc Slip for coffee. Thanks to the following for an awesome ride out in the sunshine and a decent amount of climbing 👍
Rich '200 miles in a weekend' Lewis
Tony 'all rounder' Mansell
Hannah the mountain goat
Racing Patrick
KOM Machine Mike
Carlos Carlito
and Roy the descender (preferably with a flat)
Thanks y'all
Nick

My thanks to Rich without whose help and spare inner tube would have seen me up that well known creek without a paddle! It would be remiss of me not to mention "in despatches" Hannah and Tony for climbing back up the Bwlch to lend support. Thanks too to the rest of the team for waiting.
