Weather is looking good for Sunday. I will have done a few too many miles this week. But every mile is a good mile. As we're reaching double figures who would like to go up the side of a mountain? How about a few choices again?
Bryn from Maesteg over Llangeinor - 44 miles. Coffee in Maesteg or Margam

Bryn from near Fountains Lane - 34 miles - Coffee at Margam

Bwlch from Afan Valley - 43 miles - Coffee at Skyline

Caerphilly - 43 miles - Coffee in Caerphilly before we go upwards - Bit of a pig of a climb

Or if no one fancies a mountain a bumpy ride - 39 miles maybe coffee in Porthcawl at Broomwagon.

Is the going to be a Referendum!
-
I can do a poll.
-
I’ve been told the bwlch from treorchy is closed till 9 th April Ben Afan valley side ok
-
I looked on Rhondda's website and couldn't find anything. The BBC report is rather vague but sounds like Bwlch from Afan or Nantymoel side is do-able. I've messaged them to find out a bit more on the details.
-
I've removed the Treorchy Bwlch route. Replaced it with a variation of the Bryn instead.
-
Happy with any of those Ben, so long as the weather stays promising (and my temporary wheels arrangements work out).
Not sure about coffee at Margam in school holidays? Have not tried Skyline yet though...
-
Never happy if there’s a hill involved, I’ve cleaned my bike and now I’m going to clean my shoes. I assume Skyline is Afan Country Park. Could go over the Bryn over Cimla, Briton Ferry ang Coffee at Remos, but we will save that for a fine day. See you all Sunday, don’t forget the sun cream🤡
-
I'd assumed it was the Afan cafe too, but a quick Google suggested it's at Glyncorrwg. If you don't know it Ron, it must be new!
-
They are both Skyline bike shops or were, there is a cafe at Glyncorrwg maybe it’s there we are going.Lucky it’s not Greggs, there’s a few of them too. Afan Argoed has been there in different forms for 60 years, the cafe has changed hands and names a few times, its now run by the same gang as Garw Park cafe. As long as the coffee is in a proper cup I don’t care much, awful climb coming back from Glynca.🦍
-
Skyline cafe is the one we stopped at last time we rode the Bwlch. Coffee wasn't bad and neither was the cake ;-)
-
So what is the route Ben I like to know so I can decide whether to go out with the club or later in the day with a friend from ogmore vale . thanks
-
It's either Bwlch or Caerphilly at the moment Mal.
-
I was planning to meet the Chasers but as they're going West now that will be a bit too late back for me.May go over Bwllch possibly with Amblers or if you do plan to go out later Mal possibly with you??
-
I’ll meet with the amblers but I’m going to do the bwlch I forgot it was Paris roubaix so would like to be back fairly early to see some of it
-
I'll aim to be there at 9(if weather ok)and do Bwllch then Mal
-
Tom do you want to meet me at 8 at the Llanmaes crossroads?
-
Probably best not to make a firm plan Ben-I'll make a decision in the morning-may see you there or at Brackla or not at all!
-
10 of us today. Biggest Amblers group I've seen for a while. Tom, Pat and Mal were planning to go over the Bwlch from Nantymoel side then down via a different way. Myself, Are, Nick, Carrie, Jo, Ron and Roy carried on to stop at Afan Argoed cafe. From there we went back via Margam then Fountains Lane. Great ride some strong riding too.
-
Yes nice ride Ben-didn't mean to subvert your ride but the midweek hilly ride is the most climbing you can do in 3 hours from Brackla unless you just ride to the bottom of the Bwllch and ride up and down for 2 hours.Poor old Mal hadn't realised he also had to climb Shwtt if he wanted a coffee. We'd done 3500 ft climbing by then so Pat told me so probably 4k by the time I got home, then Sarah suggested a 5 mile walk.I'm now going to lie down
-
Excellent ride today, we saw Steve Landeg by Wigglys, concerned about the height we climbed “ what’s a ft” is it something they used in the old days and the Assembly have reintroduced for the sole purpose of the cycling community?
-
Very enjoyable ride ( apart from shwt) I also faced a long walk when I got home with my bonkers boxer but at least I had a nice pint of real ale at the end of it . Great riding today from Jo and Carrie and Roy and Patrick just seem to get stronger will have to re think the term Amblers I think 😀
-
Considering the average age of the Amblers today I think we shall have to be renamed "The Grannyvanters" ;D ;D :o
