Title: Chasers 22 October
Post by: RichardB on October 18, 2017, 07:40:07 PM
The weather is looking dry and mild on Sunday but with a pretty strong wind from the West. So we'll head out west to Swansea, trying to avoid the wind on the way out, with a coffee stop in the Marina and then have the wind on our backs on the way home. Around 58 miles, route as follows;

Bridgend - Tondu Road - New Road - onto the A48 the other side of Pyle - Margam - Taibach - Afan Valley up to Pontrhydyfen - Cimla - Neath - Neath Abbey - Skewen - Llansamlet - Bonymaen - Marina for the coffee stop - Fabian Way - Harbour Way - Margam - Pyle - Stormy Down - Lalleston - Home

Hope this ok for everyone.

I'll add some more detailed directions later for the stretch through Swansea. I think I know my way.

So here's the directions from Llansamlet to the Marina as far as I remember them but hopefully there are others out who have also ridden this route previously. So once we get over junction 44 we take the left signposted for Llansamlet station. This is Bethel Road and we then bear left onto Trallwyn Road and onwards uphill, we bear right at the top where the road becomes Carmel Road. We then drop downwards and over a series of roundabouts. We then come off left off one of these roundabouts onto Jersey Road and this eventually takes us on to the main road that takes us towards the Marina. If we miss this left turn we can just come back from the next roundabout where there is no straight ahead option.

Sounds good, be good to be in a decent size group out into the wind.

Turned into a joint Pacers-Chasers ride this morning with a morning of changeable weather. Very blustery as expected on the way out, sunshine while we were in the cafe and rain all the way home. Good numbers, the 13 out today were;
Mark Rosser
Greg
Reece
Paul
Harpo
Steve Chapman
Me
Terry
Tony
Neil
Lee S
Chris Goodwin
Chris Reed, hope I've not forgotten anyone.
Followed the route as posted, good pace on the way out, thanks to everyone who did a turn into the wind. Good coffee stop as usual in the Marina. There is veto on the reporting of any incident that may have taken place outside the cafe when we set off in the interest of matrimonial harmony.
The group split into the expected pacer and chaser groups as soon as we got on to Fabian Way. Good pace home from the Chasers with Terry spending a lot of time on the front. A couple of minor mechanicals on the way home. Lee was stuck in one gear which saw him dropped but he did well to come back and we lost Chris Reed to cleat problems.
58 miles for me today, thanks all, see you next week.
