I didn't want to tread on Ben's toes by posting about today's ride but am guessing his relatively early mechanical mishap means he couldn't say much so here's a brief account.
8 Chamblers(pretend Amblers) set off from Brackla to follow Ben's cunning route which shadowed the Chaser's route Richard posted-the 2 rides were never more than a couple of miles apart.Unfortunately Ben broke a spoke in Peterston and decided he'd better head home(I checked later he made it ok).Fortunately it happened before we hit the hill of the day up from St George's to St Nicholas(although he had to climb up from Gwern y Steeple it's a good bit longer and steeper the other way!).
Mal and Ron decided to head home for Father's Day celebrations at St Nicholas whilst the 5 remaining turned past Dyffryn to Llancarfan,Aberthaw round the Camp to Café Velo(passed Paul Jenkins there but not for long-he joined our Chain Gang).Expected café to be heaving but completely deserted and had the Coutyrard to ourselves.Back via Ogmore and Southerndown gave us a shade under 50 miles to Brackla.
On a slightly serious note I've done lots of Chaser's rides recently and cannot detect any difference in distance or speed between the Chaser's and The Amblers at the moment. Is this what we want?

I was a little disappointed to break a spoke. It made a loud bang on the downhill just before. I think it was a hole I ran over. Gwern-y-steeple was a long drag of a climb. But I managed to get home. I ended up going towards Llancarfan then up along the coast road to Llantwit.
The two rides are getting close in pace and distance. I always have a shorter back up ride in hand though if new riders turn up.

Fair point Ben and I wasn't getting at you but I think everyone on today's ride could just have easily done the Chasers
-
I think they could to Tom. Today's ride especially. I think there's a bit of a mental jump though. The step up a group is a couple of miles an hour average but it's doable. On something hillyer like Bwlch or Rhigos some might struggle. The Chasers are quicker than me up Bwlch from Nanty-moel side. But the steep bit by the clock tower kills me.
