Title: Chaser's Ride - Sunday 11 December
Post by: Mark Pope on December 10, 2016, 12:24:19 PM
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses

The weather is looking pretty good tomorrow 8) so I propose the following route taking in the Coast, then up the Afan Valley and back down the Llynfi Valley. As follows:

Brackla - Coychurch - Treoes - Corntown - Ewenny - Dipping Bridge - A48 - Porthcawl - Kenfig Pool - Margam - A48 - Taibach - Cwmafan - Duffryn - Cymer - Glyncorrwg Ponds - Cymer - Caerau - Nantyffllon - Maesteg - Tondu - Bridgend - Brackla

The link is attached above. It's 52 miles, with a coffee stop planned for the Mountain Bike Centre at Glyncorrwg. For some reason Garmin Connect didn't like the 4 mile return stretch from Cymer to Glyncorrwg, so that's not included in the link. See you tomorrow, 0930 at Brackla.

Mark

Spot the deliberate mistake in the previous post. When you open the link it goes to all courses. The actual course to open is 'Cheeky Cymer'.

Remember to take those shiny Chinese bikes upstairs at the Café, it's nearly Christmas and enjoy the climb from the Afan Dale to the top of Coeserw. Google were probably to frightened to go through Heol y Glyn.

Well I don't know what happened there-I have a strong suspicion you were all hiding round the corner watching me ride up every road asking passers by if they'd seen you.Not only did they say they hadn't but no-one knew the Mountain Bike Centre either! Hopefully you got my message Mark,I rode over Caurau, through Maesteg then Shwt and home over the Common. Hope Mike got home for 1-he'd have been bang on if he'd stuck with me!

There were 10 Chasers out today enjoying the sunshine and relatively balmy weather (balmy as long as you kept moving). As planned we headed out to Porthcawl before ascending the Afan Valley for coffee at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre and then heading home via the Llynfi Valley, Caerau, Nantyffllon, Maesteg and Bridgend. We managed to lose Tom somewhere near Cymmer, although he had planned to go home without coffee anyway, so we weren't too worried (thanks Tom,I got your phone message). Unfortunately, our Newbie Mike, who had to be in Cardiff for a family party at 2pm was cursed with two punctures on route home and he and I didn't get back to Brackla until 2:15pm, so no doubt the temperature in his house is currently at nuclear winter levels. :-[

All in all a good morning's ride, although my decision to take the scenic route up to Glyncorrwg and a fistful of punctures made it a longer day than planned. Next week we can reconsider our start time and route length, but we'll canvass that later in the week. Out today were:

Andy Storrie (welcome back buddy)
Tom
Mike (Newbie - strong as a bull, riding a Tom like tractor bike)
Terry
Tony
Rich B
Nice
Roy R
Nick L
Mark P

See you next week.

Yes thanks for the ride Mark-I think we were at cross purposes-I was only skipping coffee to get Mike back but thought we probably had time for it anyway! Several people said they wanted a comfort stop and Nigel pulled into a layby on the Bwllch-he said we were stopping but as soon as I did he rode on and you all rode past me! I assumed you'd wait up the road hence my searching.Never mind if it hadn't happened I'd have been the one with Mike!
See you next week

As the group past they shouted to carry on, so I chased after them. When I got home and parked up then came back out to the bike I had a flat back tyre, 2 thorns. So thats 4 punctures today for us, think mine was from the coychurch Pencoed cycle path:(. Nice ride today.

Ah-thanks Nige-that explains what happened-I didn't hear the carry on shout and I suspect no-one realised I wasn't there-shows how easily these things happen-luckily I know the way(but not to the Mountain Bike Centre!)Sounds like I missed a puncture fest though
