Last years charity Quiz was such a success for Keith Barrett's Guide Dogs for the Blind (£500plus) that we have decided to give it another go. This year it is to support chairman Steven Madeley charity
MENCAP the UK charity for people with learning difficulties
Steven has already raised more than £600 with his Ride London effort so we hope we can add to this with a profit on the tickets. The entry ticket is also a raffle ticket so remember to bring it on the night for it to go into the hat !
Teams for the Quiz are limited to a maximum of SIX . Anyone who has not organised a team before the night will be allowed to choose the team they join when they arrive. So, come on your own if you want, we will fit you in.
Teams do not have to be all Oggie members. Bring your friends, neighbours and family for a fun night out with prizes and lovely fish and chips delivered at 8.00pm. Mary and Alan will make tea to go with the fish and chips but there will be no biscuits or cakes or other drinks so please bring your own wine or beer etc.
Doors at Gilead Chapel Hall, Coity will be open at 7.00pm for a start of the Quiz at 7.30pm sharp.
Tickets are £10.00 each available from me. Ring or text 07840 338754 to reserve yours. We are printing 80 only. I am keeping a register of names against ticket number so, if you have a lucky number, I may be able to reserve that number (s) for you initially.
You may pay for the tickets by cheque or cash and they can be collected at next Thursday's mid week time trial or any Friday Club Night up to the 23rd September. I may find my way up to a Sunday morning club run start too in order to sell/deliver tickets.
Please do not leave it until the night to pay. It is going to be a fast night with lots going on for the helpers and we want to start on time.
Club Captain Andy Harris is organising the Quiz and he says it is looking good. Unfortunately he will not be there on the night and the Quizmaster is Chairman Steven himself.
We need member volunteers to come in at 7.00 to put out the tables and chairs and to put away afterwards. I would be pleased if anyone willing to do this would text me and say. You do not need to take part in the Quiz if you don't want to.
In fact, this would be an advantage because organising the fish and chips and the raffle are also challenging and we could do with a small team of people free of the Quiz to help.
It would be greatly appreciated if all ticket holders could consider bringing along a small raffle prize. We could number these up whilst the Quiz is going on . The prize draw will be whilst the fish and chips are being eaten at about 8.00pm.
So, it's time to put your teams together. I will try to get friends to come and I hope you will do the same, or family of course.
The ticket line is now open

Looks like a good night but sorry to say I'll be in France Tim. Please accept my apols
-
Tom, we were counting on you to put a winning team together. Perhaps you can do that before you go to France
For the rest of us, here's a chance to win if Tom is not in it !
Text me to reserve tickets

Really sorry I can't make this, it was a great evening, last year.
We need a few club members to offer to get a team together, the quiz isn't too 'highbrow' there's something for everybody. Step forward as a team captain and get some of your non-cycling friends or family involved, all for a good cause.
-
Steven has a team of 6 from his office and I am working on neighbours for another team but to date I have sold only 7 tickets.
Potentially we have 19 then
I would encourage members to think about helping here to make it a great night . we have 80 tickets printed.
Please think about a team if you can
I shall be in club on Friday and will be at Physique at 9.00am. Bring your dosh and give me the names. Each ticket is numbered for Raffle purposes. I keep a note of each sale for use on the door on the night.
I emphasise that I must know how many are coming at least Wednesday before the 30th because I have to order the fish and chips.
Please therefore act now to make sure you have a place. Only 16 days to go and two weekends to organise your friends and family and get your tickets
It will be a blast if you act now
Cheers

Hi Tim, two tickets for me please for the Anthony duo. Tina will make something edible (hopefully ) for the raffle.
Thanks, Terry
-
Hi Tim,
Please put me down for 2 x tickets for Debs and me. Thanks
-
Thanks folks. With other promises of three teams and ticket sales last night we have got to 35. I am turning up for the start of the 25ers Sunday morning and will bring tickets along. Those who want to pay and collect can do so then. Don't forget your dosh !
For those who are not yet organised to come but want to do so (remember it is fun) you have next Friday and next Sunday to see me for tickets. Plenty of opportunity. If you reserve tickets I expect you to pay and fish and chips will be ordered for you unless you just want to donate the money to Mencap.
Because it is so close to the date when I would normally organise the Roadmans Night Out I am considering whether we need that event. I guess that depends upon demand. Please let me have some feedback on this.
If promises so far are kept we might sell 60 of the 80 tickets. I am sure we can do better than that. Come along to help too, if you prefer not to do the Quiz. You still get entered in the raffle and get your fish and chips.
Tim

What a great response folks.
That's 21 actually sold with 9 reserved. 30 in total. Several good promises too.
It would be appreciated if I could receive the money, one way or another. I will order fish and chips only for those who have paid otherwise we end up asking the charity to pay us ! ! !
I have a team of friends from the village, they even said they may bring raffle prizes. Brilliant !
Nige collected and paid for 2 more tickets at the club run meet this morning and I will be there again next week. That will be the last opportunity for anyone to buy/pay for a ticket in person. I will also be at club next Friday of course.
Ceri, or anyone else, if you want to send me a cheque by snailmail or drop the money in to my house at any time the address is;
'Brusselton', Treoes,Bridgend. CF35 5DL. It is opposite and 50 paces away from The Star pub.
I need money in by Wednesday 28th to give final orders for food
If you wish I will post the tickets back to you(give me your address) or you can pick them up on the night. Remember, the ticket is also a raffle ticket so you will need it !
Keep it coming folks

Last chance tonight to pay for tickets unless you see me at 9.00am Sunday at the Club Run OR you post it or bring it to my house before Wednesday
It's looking good but we need all the ticket sales we can get.
There will be ticket sales on the night but the £10.00 will not include fish and chips

Payment for tickets can be made directly to the Club's bank account

-
As at 7.00pm tonight 42 tickets sold or reserved.
We're getting there
See some of you in the clubhouse later.
All names with ticket numbers in envelopes ready for collection.
I will have the remainder of the tickets with me if you want to drop in

Great news folks. I have now got money for 40 tickets and reservations for a further 16 who have yet to pay and who will not have fish and chips unless I receive payment before Wednesday
Total 56
It will be a blast !
Steven has the Quiz organised and I have already been promised or received 3 raffle prizes with others to come from club members on the night.
Doors open at 7.00 for people to get tables/teams organised. Those coming without a team can pick their fellow competitors amongst the others in the same boat (with our help).
I have promises from a few members to turn up earlier than 7.00pm to set up the tables and put out the chairs.
Not all the chairs are in the Hall and I have been given a key to the Chapel so we can get whatever others we need from there. Because of this and the inevitable extra time this will take could I ask fellow members to come along in numbers to give us a hand with this - and stay for a few minutes afterwards to put them back and tidy up.
I will be there at 6.30pm so if you can do this please come along then and give a hand.
Final requests for payment please if you want to eat ! Neil, Ceri, Mark. I need to have final numbers for the fish and chip numbers by Wednesday teatime.

That's it folks. 64 tickets sold and fish and chips ordered for each one (including Mark Pope).
We have 80 tickets to sell so we can take another 16 if anyone else wants to come or ticket holders want to bring family or friends. As mentioned above they will cost £10.00 still but will not include supper.
Mary (with her shiner still I bet) and Alan have volunteered to do teas but there will be no biscuits or cakes.
It's looking set to be a lot of fun !
Don't forget to bring a raffle prize if you are feeling generous, your own beverages and your brains. I know it's Friday but what a great way to start the weekend. Especially with the Hill Climb on Sunday to complete the intellectual and physical challenge. What a Club !
I shall need to be on the door so I do need people to turn up to set up the tables and chairs. 6.30 PM OK.
See you Friday

Hi Tim,
I've just sent you a text but just in case you don't pick that up I thought I'd put my message up on the Guest Book. Unfortunately I'm still in work (now 1720) at Shrivenham, which is about 20 miles from Oxford and I'm not likely to leave for another hour or so. As a result I'm not likely to make the Quiz Night. Obviously I'll pay £10 into the Club account to pay for my ticket (and fish and chips :'()!. See you Sunday for the Club Hill Climb.

I'm going to be coming down ticketless so I'll happily pay Marks £10 and make sure the fish and chips don't go to waste! Got a nice bottle of wine for a raffle prize too, see you soon
-
Well that's it folks ! A brilliant fun night that netted £380.00 for Mencap.
Thanks go to everyone who came or contributed in any way.
Particular thanks to my team Mary and Allan and to Steven who turned out to be a brilliant quizmaster (except for the music round ! The hippie dancing was Dad-ish).
Thanks also to those who brought along raffle prizes, you may have noticed Tina's huge cake ! and others which had obviously had time spent on them. What a brilliant effort.
Finally to those who made a huge effort to help in putting up and clearing tables and chairs, disposing of a mountain of rubbish and washing up.
What a team !
Will we do it next year ? I guess we would need to tag it to fund raising cycling activities of a member.
Thank you everyone
Tim
