Title: Track Session 04 30/12/2015
Post by: Paul Nicholas on December 30, 2015, 03:19:46 PM
Wednesday session with a larger group today, 7am start.  Bit apprehensive as I smashed it yesterday with Harpo doing a recce of the New Years day TT course, and the legs were a bit stingy this morning!.

Three drills today, hopefully I will start to remember the names soon! Fast paced 30min warm up, TT sort of affair with everyone doing a turn on the front for a lap.

500m sprint: group riding on the blue line then first rider off the front to do 2 laps on the black line 500m sprint today took 36.42 for me (I think that's what I heard shouted at me after my turn) almost caught the group before the line.

64 laps 10mile TT tough about six riders in the end. I had to peel off with 6 or 7 to go, riders in front peeled off and it was too difficult to close the gaps down, rode the blue for the last six made sure I wasn't lapped and finished it off solo.

10, 20, 30, 20, 10 sec sprint efforts with same amount of rest between each effort a bit like turbo workout.

Looking forward starting the 3 week improvers course on Monday, and seriously looking at getting my own bike. I'm riding a lot smoother around the track now but at what feels like twice the cadence of everyone else. This is OK for the most part but I'm finding it difficult to close down gaps especially today in the 10mile TT, and I reckon I could go faster over 500m with a bigger chainring.

Just read this article about gear ratios which has an interesting perspective on how roadies approach the track:

Makes me think that my big chainring fixation may not be the way forward. In true human fashion looking for an easy mechanical solution first when I probably need to look at myself and adjust my mentality and physique first!
