My old school friend Paul Still (who Steven M also knows)runs a pub quiz at the Barley Mow Craig Penlline on the first Thursday of the month. He's been nagging me for ages to enter a Team and on today's club run Andrew S and Paul L said they were both definites for the next quiz which is on Thurs 7th November at 8,45.
I'm hoping Chris Mogg will join us(he did a quiz with me a few months ago)but we need a few more people.Do you fancy it?
Andy and I are thinking of sharing a cab.I don't suppose we'll win but I'm sure we'll have a good night-come and join us!
-
Hi Tom,
Sorry I read you email and then forgot all about it. Yes count me in. Taxi also sounds good as I can sample a few of their fine ales as well
Chris
-
Excellent Chris-shall we wear club kit?(definitely not!)
-
If you need a reserve - get in touch!
-
It's only 5 of us with you Steve so you're in.We need someone of your erudition!
-
.... I'll need to look that word up - or is it question 1 ?
-
How many in a team?
-
Don't know Richard,I'll check but I'm sure it'll be ok if you want to join us
-
Good one, I enjoy a quiz.
-
Double checked the date and I am working late ,please count me in for December. One month Carol and I won Sunday lunch for two, perhaps you could win Sunday lunch for the club run !
-
Will do Steven!
-
Paul tells me that there isn't really a limit on numbers per team and as Steven can't make it in November we are down to 5 so still an opportunity for anyone who is tempted.Perhaps a female to balance out all those men?
-
Tom I'm up for sharing taxi too.
-
Quiz is this Thursday.Paul has had to pull out as Sue will be out but like Stephen is keen to take part in December(unless we are too disheartened to do it again!)
Team is myself,Chris M.Andrew S Richard B and Terry if he remembers to read the Guest book!If anyone else wants to join us you're more than welcome.
Richard happy to share taxi with us.Andy Chris and I all live close to each other in Brackla, not sure where you are(Broadlands??) and whether taxi should start at your end?Let me know-I think if we aim to get there 8.15 ish should be fine(quiz 8.45).If you want a word ring/text 01656 646576/07747 868239
-
Please ignore the above posting(you're no doubt used to ignoring my postings!)Paul has just mailed me to say he can make it and will drive and give 4(max)a lift from Brackla(area).I have volunteered myself ,Andy and Chris so Rich let me know where you are and hopefully we can work something out!
-
Hi Tom, yes we dicussed yesterday morning. I'm in Brackla too, in Erw Hir. Hope you enjoyed the footie!! :D
Paul, what time are you picking us all up. I can walk down to the lights at the entrance to the estate.
Cheers
Richard
-
Thanks Richard,Paul is calling for me about 8.Chris and Andy are both on/off Channel View.I've just looked up where you are,I think it'll be best to collect you last, probably about 8.10.Do you mean the lights on Coychurch Road?
-
Yes Tom the lights after the Haywain roundabout as you are heading away from Bridgend. See you all later. Hope you've been doing lots of preparation! :)
-
So - I guess you all made it to the quiz
Any update on how you got on?
-
only if we're clairvoyant Teresa-it doesn't start till 8.45 tomight!Still time for you to join us!
-
Oh dear - getting way too far ahead of myself :-[
Good luck - and if there is another, I will definitely come along.
-
I know you're all desperate to know how we got on(not!).Thanks to club captain Paul for driving myself Andy S,Chris M and Richard B.Apparently for the first time ever in the Barley Mow quiz there was a tie for first place so we had to go into a tie break -how many Islands in Indonesia? We were going to say 50 before the hint that it was in the thousands. Some idiot(writing this report)suggested 2001.The answer was approx. 17,500 and as our rivals put 16,000 they were worthy winners.Nevertheless we won a £15 voucher to spend on food or drink so obviously we'll use that to buy food next month.
Hopefully we'll get a few more to join us?
-
I knew that ( not really!)
Count me in for December - is it the 5th?
-
Even if you didn't know that one Steve I'm quite sure you'd have got one we didn't in which case we wouldn't have had to go into a tie-break!Yes it is the 5th Dec-I'll re-activate this thread a bit before then to see if there's still enthusiasm for it!
-
The next quiz at the Barley Mow is next Thursday,5th if anyone is interested?I think a few people have expressed an intention to come this time-possibly hoping to benefit from the £15 voucher we won(unless Paul has spent it!)There is no limit on numbers,we could always forn 2 Teams if there is a rush to come!
-
Count me in again Tom,
Cheers,
Richard
-
I intend on being there this time round. And I will be bringing an intellegent person with me to counterbalance my efforts ;)
-
I'll come as well ( not as an intelligent person!)
-
Yes count me in - got to have my free beer that's unless Paul has beaten us to it
-
Is the start 8.45pm?
-
Yes Teresa-they were a bit late last time but that's the official ko!
-
I'll meet you in the pub - save me a seat please !
-
I think we're sorted for Thursday-the enthusiasm continues unabated! As well as the 5 from last time-myself,PaulL,Andy S,Richard Bowmer and Chris Mogg-we have promises from Steven M,Teresa plus 1,Terry and Carrie.
Andy has kindly offered to drive the original 5 of us this time,he will call for Paul then pick us up in Brackla.(Chris,Pete said this morning he thought you'd be away although you have said here to count you in??)I suggest whoever arrives first bag a large table-still room if anyone else is tempted!
-
My 'plus 1' is Gill - The intelligent one ;)
-
9 people for the quiz, so we were encouraged to split into two teams.
Team A - Pacers (Steven M, Richard B, Tom, Gill)
Team B - Amblers (Carrie, Andrew S, Paul, Terry, Teresa)
Team B beat Team A by 5 points and came third overall - just missing out on a prize.
A very enjoyable evening.
Next quiz - 2nd January
-
Yes we had a good turn-out last night but I think my team at least established that Christmas films and songs aren't our strong suit! There was so much enthusiasm that Paul L volunteered to get a Quiz organised for one evening in Mallorca-at this rate OVW will become a Quiz team who do a bit of cycling on the side!
-
Yes, enjoyable evening, good company.
Well beaten on the night, improvement needed for 2 January!!
-
The next Quiz is this Thursday 2nd Jan.I did wonder if anyone would feel like doing a Quiz so near the Bank Hol but Paul tells me he's keen and Richard B is so keen he plans to come straight from the airport(returning from Paris)and bring Alison as wel,so I think we have the nucleus of a Team.
.Are there any others who can make it this time?
-
Hi Tom that's still the Plan for me. See you Thursday.
-
Hi Tom, I plan on coming along too.
-
Hi Tom,
I'll be there, and don't mind driving just let me know what time.
-
I'll be there too, 8pm?
-
Hi Tom
Yes I intend joining you
-
Looks like two teams again !
-
Sorry peeps, but I can't come - which probably means my 'plus1' won't make it either.
Assuming the next date will be the 6th Feb?
-
Thanks to all for your replies.Sorry you can't make it Teresa-yes I think next one is 6/2.At present I think we are 7 this time so may be one Team although please don't let that put anyone else off coming-the more the merrier!
Thanks for offering to drive Paul-don't think it's your turn,I'm happy to share a taxi if you prefer(and pay the lion's share!)If you are having a dry January I think we need to leave here about 8ish-to bag the table by the fire before the dog does.Start time is 8.45 Steve-see you all tomorrow
-
Good luck - Not with the quiz, but with fighting a man and his dog for the best spot near the fire ;)
-
I'll be there after 8pm - please save me a seat!
-
The OVW maintains it's 100% record of podium finishes ( after Mark Nott's third place in the New Year's Day '10') by winning the first prize in last night's pub quiz!
We are £25 better off - expect an Amblers Ride to the Barley Mow soon......
-
Sorry for the silence on this topic this month but the position has been fluid! There is a Barley Mow quiz this Thursday(6th) but we may be short on numbers.Paul and I can't make it and Chris(M)and Andy are doubtful as well. There are plenty of others who've contributed so by all means go along if you can get enough for a Team but I've warned Paul S we may not make it this month but will be back to defend our Laurels on 6th March.
-
I plan on going this time and bringing Gill with me again.
-
I don't intend going this week. I made other plans in the knowledge of others not being able to make it.
-
Sorry but I won't be able to make it either
-
Might there be anyone else going?
-
I don't think a team of two is enough to cover any inadequacies in my general knowledge, so I am going to swat for next month instead ;)
-
That's a pity Teresa-sorry I can't make it.Next one is 4 weeks tomorrow March 6th-put it in your and Gill's diaries now!
-
I'm up for the 6th too.
-
I know this is what you've all been waiting- for-the next quiz at the Barley Mow is a week on Thursday(6th March)-thought I'd give a bit of notice.Although we missed last month we won the January quiz! All welcome-we can form a couple of teams if we need to!
-
Carol and I will be there..
-
Been in my diary since last time - Gill and I intend to be there
-
Yes for me.
-
Yes count me in
-
Now unavailable - sorry...
-
I am still coming along with Gill.
We aim to be there 8.15ish, assuming an 8.45 start
-
Another good quiz this evening. Tom, ChrisM, AndrewS, Carrie, RichardB, Gill and myself.
Victory again for the Oggie team, but unfortunately due to another teams interesting marking of our paper, this was not discovered until after the 'winner and runner up' was announced.
Next quiz is 3rd April. Highly recommended. Good variety of questions. And we will bring a calculator next time for the other team :P
-
If we're not banned for being difficult we'll be there!Just had a quick look at World Heritage Sites-lots of references to Blaenavon Iron Works etc(as we said)but can't see any references to Big Pit!!
-
Next quiz at the Barley Mow,Craig Penlline is next Thursday 3rd.We have £12.50 to spend(rightfully should be£25!!)although Paul who runs the quiz has been in touch to say he may ask us to split up into 2(or more)teams as he is keen to have as many teams participating as possible.I know Carrie and RichardB are planning to go-who else wants a share of the £12.50?
-
I am hoping to be there. It's not about the money/winning, it the taking part that counts ;)
-
I am planning on going
-
It's absolutely about winning ! (with some fun and banter too...)
-
I'm with Steve. It's all about the winning for me too. I'll be there.
