The proposed route for this Sunday's amble is:
Brackla - Coychurch - Pencoed - the Common - Bryncethin - Blackmill - Llangeinor - Bettws - Shwt - Maesteg - the Bryn - Cwmafan - Taibach - Margam - Water St - Kenfig - Porthcawl - A48 - Merthyr Mawr cutting - Ewenny - Corntown - A48 - B&Q - Brackla
It's 52 miles Brackla to Brackla. The plan is to have a coffee stop at the Broomwagon in Porthcawl. The weather forecast is actually quite good so after a Summer's worth of Sunday soakings we might get to enjoy a bit of sunshine ; 8).
See you Sunday.

Bored this morning Mark, to continue your route knowledge of local landmarks, Merthyr Mawr cutting, it's "The Dipping Bridge". Why? someone will tell us. Off to pick up my new toy.

The Dipping Bridge sounds much better!

Hi, out of curiosity what time do you expect to reach Llangeinor, or better still what time do you leave Brackla? I might ride towards you from Llangeinor and hopefully join you for as long as possible. Thanks
-
We leave Brackla at 9am and should be up and over Llangeinor by about 9 45. Feel free to join us at Physiques Gym in Brackla or on route. We normally stop and regroup at the bottom of the hill in Llangeinor by the bus shelter before heading up to Bettws. Hope to see you Sunday.

Thanks for the offer Dave, very appreciative, Im sure its something I will be doing in the near future, maybe meet in Braunies, but this sunday I will aim to meet them at Llangeinor, im doing silly hours this weekend and an early alarm isnt something I want to hear. I will get there for around 9 35 and just do some reps up the hill until they come by, but please dont wait around for me if im not there. Quite looking forward to it now

Well that was an interesting ride! One crash, two punctures and three missing persons. Eleven Amblers left Brackla this morning and were quickly joined by Mal & Chris Chick ( making a welcome return to Club Rides). The weather was fantastic, for the first time since about February, so we were set fair for a great ride taking in a few of the Afan & Llynfi Valley's hills. Unfortunately Terry and Jon Saunders had a bit of a tumble on the road to Black mill that caused some painful gravel rash and ruined club kit. However, Terry's morale was improved by a very kind, blonde nurse (a female ;D), who stopped to administer first aid.
After climbing over Llangeinor and up to Bettws we headed up to Maesteg to head over the Bryn. After navigating the Kamikaze traffic lights at Cwmafan, poor old Jon had a puncture to add to his woes, before we set off for Porthcawl at such a lick that we didn't notice we'd left Mal, Terry and Tom behind who were fixing another puncture. We didn't see them again despite sending out a search party. We then rode through Porthcawl's crowds along what was today a glorious seafront and headed home without the scheduled tea stop. However, Tony Mansell had phoned ahead to arrange a very welcome free tea/coffee and cake stop in his back garden in Corn town. Top job and many thanks to Louise for the excellent refreshments and comfy chairs in their very sunny back garden.
Terry finally caught up with us after helping Mal with his puncture and Tom later rang to say he had got home safely (so we think did Mal). I think Napoleon returned from Moscow with more men!!
Out today at various points were:
Gary
Chris Reed
Chris Chick
Mal
Tom
Terry A
Tony M
Neil Bartlett
Wayne
Paul Long - riding well
Jon Saunders
Lee S
Mark P

-
Thanks Mark for a great ride today, it's the Amblers all the way for me now!
-
I did get home thanks to Tom and Terry it took 3 tubes to finally fix my puncture then the three of us headed off to porthcawl before tom suddenly disappeared up a lane and then there were two - bit like an agatha christie novel see you next week .thanks again T &T
-
Crap - sorry for letting the cat out of the bag Terry!
I of course meant Tony! I get my T's mixed up sometimes (especially when you do actually both have the same name just in a different order - think there is an old Morcombe and Wise joke in there somewhere)
