This year's club dinner will be held on November 27th at the Bear Hotel. The guest of honour will be Magnus Backstedt.
-
Nice work Steven.
-
Thanks
In my diary and looking forward to it already
-
Wow - well done Steven.
-
Magnus - Excellent, best guest yet in my opinion since I've been associated with the club. I suppose Barry Hogan was maybe higher profile in terms of what he achieved, but way before my time.
Reckon Magnus in his speech will mostly be looking back fondly on the 2 times he has been fortunate enough to race against me in his more recent history as a pro, one of which being the OVW Welsh Champs Road Race! Strangely I don't recall seeing too much of him in either race. He must have been hanging on the back of my wheel, or something like that! ;-)
-
Wow fantastic after dinner speaker.
-
,2 definite for club dinner, brilliant getting Magnus too, can't wait
-
Well done Steven.
I now know what date to avoid when fixing a date for the Club Auction too.

The tickets will be on general sale from next Friday;
Ways to pay - by cash or cheque to myself or Mary at the clubnight.
By bank transfer - Ogmore Valley Wheelers. TSB bank 30 95 34 00880070
Remember to put some means of identification on the transfer details so Mary knows who you are!

The dinner tickets are now officially on sale, at a price of £33. You will find the ways to pay earlier in this thread and I will be at the club tonight to take cheque and cash ( exact amounts please!) payments. I also enclose the menu choices, which you can either post here once you have paid or email to me at madelsnene@aol.com. Just a reminder that tickets are on a first come, first served basis and posting on this thread does not guarantee you a ticket if you have not paid for one.

On a slightly different note. For many years we have a tradition at the club dinner of cross toasting. We noticed last year that quite a few did not know what was going on. This is a tradition that goes on at many cycling dinners, and it is one that we would like to continue with. So we thought we'd put up a few pointers. The cross toasting is opened by the club president aka Norman James, immediately after the 1st course is finished. He knocks the table to gain people's attention, raises his glass and makes a toast to someone in the room. This may be congratulatory or amusing. Something that person has "achieved" throughout the season. That person also stands up and raises his glass in response. Then the floor is open to all and sundry to congratulate or embarrass anyone they choose. The banter can be very amusing for all guests. You'll soon get the gist of it on the night. So start getting yourselves armed with some witty repertoire. I think we fall short of actually downright insulting anyone. So play nice. Cross toasting is then closed after the last course by toasting the Queen. Good luck and have fun. :)
Also take note that dress code is smart i.e no jeans or T. shirts. See you on the night.

Less than a week to go and time to give you some more information;
7pm in the bar for a meal at 7.30pm prompt.
Dinner, followed by a speech from our Guest of Honour, Magnus Backstedt.
Prizegiving, masterminded by Norman and Lynne, including 'The Trophy' to be presented by Paul Longthorn.
Speed Raffle ( please bring a nice prize) including the Red Shorts if anyone can remember who won them last year!
-
It's Bern ages, can't wait to see you all. Claire can't come but bringing Jan who I am hoping will join us. X

I have negotiated an upgrade from the Bear Hotel so tomorrow we will be in the St Quentin's suite. I felt that with the increased numbers, it would be a tight squeeze in the Ballroom. The room can be found at the back of the hotel next to the road and their car park. The room is larger and has a bar and a PA system although I will resist the urge to do Karaoke!
-
Good work Steven
-
Not feeling well tonight - if anyone wants to go for free then shout up here.
-
Huge thank you to all those involved in making the Club dinner a very enjoyable one.
You all make it look so seamless.
Great guest of honour and lovely to see members winning awards for the first time.
-
A great night last night. A big thank you to Steven and the team for organising the event. Magnus Backstedt really stepped up too as the guest of honour, a real gent.
-
Thanks to all for a great night out. The new venue in the St.Quentin Suite at The Bear, was just great. Please book it again for next year! Magnus was a memorable guest, he must be the most focussed cyclist i've met - All those years just planning to win a "cobble". I'm already looking forward to next years' Dinner!
-
Hi.
A "Big Thank You" to all who made the night happen, really enjoyed it !!!
Cheers,
Mark N.
