So today was the day we went to watch the Tour...
The finish is actually a road to nowhere in the middle of nowhere! It always amazes me how many people there are given there are no large towns within miles. So a long drive, punctuated by lots of coffee stops was needed. We managed to park within 2k of the start of the climb and Carol had done a great job of filling the cool bag with an enormous picnic. So we set off to walk, the road being closed from 1000. The combination of heavy cool bag, 33 degree heat and the gradient soon had me out of breath. However, wearing an OVW top gave me a great excuse to talk to all the Brits. Then came the publicity caravan and having to fight with the French kids for things I could donate as raffle prizes next week! Then the heavens opened which cooled us down nicely. Finally, amidst the noise of low flying helicopters, the riders arrived. You could see the fatigue in their eyes. I could not have kept that speed up if I'd only started on the previous corner, amazing.....
